We get to run.
For a point in time today while we were holding a moment of silence, I got chills thinking about how lucky I am. How lucky I am to be able to make getting into motion via bike, my legs, in a pool, my means to life. To be able to smile brighter than the sun over the Washington Monument on Wednesdays with a family called November Project, to surround myself with amazing humans who support one another through snow, mid terms, layoffs, and everything in-between. It’s moments, days like this, where November Project gets put into perspective for me. I dive in a layer deeper, past the chin tickles, past the fuck yeahs, and get to see the smiles, the relationships, the community: The Love.
I aways use the word onward, often in all caps with f bombs before and after to reference the DC tribe never looking back, to stay focused on the next hype session. Today it was nice to be able pause, look back. And say nothing.
We get to run.
366 days ago runners got stripped of this ability to run on the worlds biggest running stage. Lives, limbs, brothers, sisters, dreams were lost in November Project’s hometown last April 15th. As runners in this community, we all stand for perseverance, dedication, and fortitude.
On mile 25.2 Cristina pushed harder through to the finish line, Chuzzi shattered personal records at Cherry Blossom, Katie is placing in races, Billy runs to and from the Pentagon every MWF, Moira is now a hugger, Can of Spaghetti is running numbers I can not even fathom, 16 year old Corwin shows up before the first bell rings or most adults are awake, and the list goes on.
You all inspire me to be better. Take that inspiration to the streets, send those good vibes to your neighbor, give that random runner a high five, be a force of positive energy. As runners, as NPers, as humans, we all have the ability to make this community a better place, to support one another, and to demonstrate what coming together looks like. Keep smiling, keep running, keep sending the vibes. Let’s change our city.
We all get to run, together.
