Every Friday at 6:30am – Rain or Shine
Summit Avenue is a street that goes up the Corey hill located on the Brighton – Brookline line. For our workout we run repeats of the .4-mile long portion of the Brookline side (that we call the “front hill”) and the .3-mile portion of the Brighton side (that we call the “back hill”).
PLEASE DO NOT PARK ON SUMMIT AVE. KEEPING SUMMIT AVE CLEAR IS WHAT MAKES THIS WORKOUT POSSIBLE. AGAIN, PARK ON BEACON AND WALK, RIDE, JOKE, OR CRAWL YOUR WAY TO THE PARK AT THE SUMMIT OF SUMMIT.

Gradient of the front hill incline varies from approximately 7-8% during the first third of the hill and it goes up to 16-17% in the last quarter of the piece. The back hill is slightly shorter and the incline is less as well. Workouts consists of hill repeats in some combination of front hills and back hills, typically for a total distance of about 4 miles, depending on your speed–and all speeds are welcome.
Sometimes we mix up workouts for variety by adding more repeats, increased intensity, or group oriented runs. Starting line is by by the fire hydrant on top of the hill. The turnaround point on the front hill is the “No Parking” sign on the corner of Summit and Beacon Street and the turnaround point on the back hill is the crosswalk at the intersection of Summit and Corey Rd. Clock starts and stops at the TOP of the hill. Every workout ends with a group photo, which is posted in a Facebook photo album each Friday.
PR Hill day is the 2nd Friday of every month. As a way of measuring progress and improvement after working so hard running hills every week, Personal Record (PR) day is when you use the motivation of the people around you to race yourself.
The Course: You complete 3 full hills (front + back hill) as fast as you can, or you attempt to come as close as you can to finishing 3 full hills in the workout time.
The Award: Everyone who sets a Personal Record (PR) earns a PR dot of spray paint in a unique color each month– we encourage you to designate a certain hat or shirt that you wear every PR day to collect your dots when you set a new PR.
