Oh Olympics you got me again

I wouldn’t say I am an emotional person. But there are a few things that get me.

I don’t cry during chick flicks. But Disney movies. Lion King every single god damn time! When they drive away from Tod (the Fox) in Fox and the Hound? And let’s not even touch Bambi.

Heart immediately crumbles. Like really Disney?!

Weddings. When the bride walks down the aisle, the flood gates open (Sidebar: Alcohol plays a significant contributing factor in this particular scenario).

The Red Wedding.

More corn dogs!

Basically anytime Ellen Degeneres surprises anyone.

And finally the Olympics. It is an emotional roller coaster. These people train their whole lives for what ends up being fractions of a second or a point between victory and heartbreak. A lot of them have overcome enormous adversities. Things like this: http://www.viralthread.com/this-weightlifters-wife-died-in-a-car-crash-he-promised-her-hed-win-gold-then-he-did/ . This year in particular we see things such as a the refugee team. You see moments like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dYQ2IyMuPes and like this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Z64K8kznYs. Sport is an amazing thing that can show the resilience and struggle of human nature in a defined moment. And there is a whole other thing you can say about national pride.  Countries standing together in unison, especially with the world as of late it is an incredible thing for the world to be on the same stage together.

Now for us we aren’t on the same global stage as the Olympians in Rio, but it doesn’t mean we don’t experience the same roller coaster in sport as these athletes. We face the same battles, injuries, losses. We do the early morning workouts. There are days when those morning are a lot harder then others. But all those burpees are not for nothing! We all have goals whether it be a 5k or an ironman or a crossfit competition. When you pour your heart, soul and in these cases your body into something, there will always be emotional highs and lows. What gets your through these moments or makes these moments even better; is being surrounding by people who celebrate those highs, and get you through those lows until that high comes. Because it will come if you keep at it. I am hoping to run my first marathon this year and you can bet there will be tears when I cross that finish line. And frig I am so excited for that moment.
