No Place Like Home (YEG)

Today I came to the hill with every intention to walk the hill, rest my body after a couple pretty long runs over the past week and give my heel and ankle some recovery time before Sunday’s Edmonton Marathon 10km…but it is so very hard to return to the tribe and take it easy! While I smartened up after running one complete hill and doing a combination of running/walking for the rest of the morning I admired the dedication of our tribe! Those sprinting up and down the hill, those working in intervals, our steady runners showing improvement each Friday, our racers this upcoming weekend who still chose to #justshowup and tapered like pros, and our dedicated power walkers – all contributing positivity, smiles, and energy that makes this community unlike any other I have been a part of. Needless to say, there truly is no place like home!

A belated congratulations to all of the half marathoner from last weekend and sending fast feet to all runners in this weekend’s Edmonton Marathon. Can’t wait to see all of the NP grassroots gear on the 10km, 21.1km, and 42.2km courses! For some, this is your first race for others, seasoned veterans…a special shout out to Ken who is running his 90th marathon Sunday morning! The tribe will be there to cheer you all on!

Saturday, August 20 – Sign Making for Marathon – 11:00AM – 12:00AM

  • Join us at Hawrelak Park for some seriously serious sign making for the marathon. We’ll bring a bunch of poster boards and some markers. You bring your witty self and writing hand.

Sunday, August 21  – Marathon Cheer Station – 6:45AM–10:30AM

  • We have an official cheer station for the Edmonton Marathon. It will be at Stutchburry Park. We’ll make a ton of signs and give those runners a ton of energy and positive vibes that morning! Be warned, there are a ton of road closures and there will be delays that morning. A great spot to park would be at Borden Park.

Monday, August 22 – Churchill Square 6:00AM

Wednesday, August 24 – Commonwealth Stadium – 5:30AM/6AM

  • The final chance this year to complete the Old96er! You’ll likely want to bring a headlamp.
  • We will also have a 6AM crew as usual for an intense 30 minute burn out

Until next time…SMILE! J
