Macarena Shoulder Taps (YEG)

And the winner for most creative Bridge Wars exercise goes to…Kevin and his partner today for the Macarena Shoulder Taps…special shout to Derek (I think it was Derek) who suggested Kevin put his hips into it a little more.

As I came down the bridge spiral near the end of this morning’s workout I overheard something about “step-forwards” – Nadim’s favourite exercise. I thought to myself…did someone actually pick step forwards as their exercise?  But no, they one-upped Nadim creating alternating shoulder taps ala the Macarena. While not the most strenuous of our N{ creations, I must say it made me laugh and that was exactly what I needed this morning so thanks! 

Other inventive, or perhaps I’ll suggest, ill-conceived exercises that I witness today were inverted pushups with feet that kept sliding down the slippery wall. I was not prepared to treat broken noses this morning so I’m glad the full count wasn’t attempted. I also saw some of you decide it would be a good challenge to do walking lunges across half of the length of the bridge deck…good thing you didn’t pick the whole bridge deck, that would have taken all morning!

But beyond the creative exercises that I watched you all complete at your respective ends of the bridge, my favourite part of the morning was, and always is, the coming together in the middle. Those hugs, high fives, smiles, laughter, agreed upon challenges, words of encouragement…that was why I showed up this morning. To share in the positive energy. To share in this community. To fill up my bucket. Thank you!
