News (YEG)

I’ll keep this short as I am finishing stitching together everyone’s submission for a little segment with CTV. Not sure what I am talking about? Check out Monday’s blog .

If you film yourself before end of day today I’ll make sure your video is included 🙂 Thank you to everyone who has submitted already. read more

One Bite at a Time (Ottawa)

So, when was the last time that you did 100 of something? Note: binging 100 episodes of The Office definitely counts. Furthermore, when did you last do 8×100 of something?! This morning, NP Atlanta challenged us with the following:

100 squats or jump squats
100 push-ups
100 sit-ups
100 jumping jacks
100 lunges or jump lunges
100 atomics
100 mountain climbers
100 penguins read more

YEG is still our playground

Hey,

I’m just sitting over hear thinking about all the wonderful mornings we’ve had together… IRL. It’s been a while.

My first day at NP was in June 2014…. a Commonwealth morning. While that entire morning was unique to me (bouncing, grassroots gear, sweaty hugs, high fives from Andrew… before I knew who he was, and more), I also noticed that the crew from Breakfast Television was there to learn more about this morning fitness group that took over the city in the wee hours. read more

Positive Temperatures?? (YEG)

This last week had me feeling like the couple in this 2014 Rick Mercer skit. Is it true? Is the weather changing?!

In follow up to our weather convo during the holiday Monday Zoom call, here is a ‘Random fact of the day’ for those reading this blog: Environment Canada defines probability of precipitation or POP as “the chance that measurable precipitation’ (0.2 mm of rain or 0.2 cm of snow) will fall on any random point of the forecast region during the forecast period.” So when the weather person says “there is a 100% chance of 0.2mm of rain in Edmonton today,” they can simply be saying that somewhere in Edmonton there will be 0.2mm of rain, not that every surface of Edmonton is guaranteed to be covered by 0.2mm of rain…unless they say that specially. Edmonton is not a small land mass and I was far too old when I learned about this distinction. read more

Weird & Wonderful (Ottawa)

Happy Wednesday! Thanks to you, it is.

Big thank you to Dean for another motivating playlist! And thank you NP Buffalo for a great workout this morning. With the limited ways to connect with other members of the community these days, simply knowing that we moved and sweat through the same exercises can make you feel like a part of something bigger beyond the screen in front of you. read more

The Year of the Ox

Happy New Year!

When Chinese New Year / Lunar New Year happens, we all know what that means. And this morning just didn’t quite feel the same. So, we’ve asked our friends and yours, Tom and Christine Loo, to help us acknowledge and celebrate the new year….

Happy Chinese New Year! Or Lunar New Year, but my family always says Chinese New Year, maybe because we are Chinese. read more

It’s boiling outside

I went to a Jim Gaffigan show when he came to Edmonton in 2007. It was like minus a million degrees that December day… early in my life in Edmonton (aka I didn’t know how to dress for real winter). Jim walked on stage and said “it’s boiling outside.”

He immediately won over that group of #yeg comedy lovers. Myself and hubs included. read more

Call Me, Definitely (Ottawa)

Good morning, Ottawa!

Thanks to you, it was.

While a few things were different for this year’s Valentine’s workout, many of the important aspects were the same. We showed up. We moved. We sweat. We silently cursed burpees. We not-so-silently cursed burpees. And we supported one another through it all. read more

Progress Update – February 4th, 2021

November Project members crowd surfing after the workout

Continuing with our Next Steps, here is the January 2021 update:

=&0=&

If you missed the last two posts by The Board Selection Committee (BSC) president and NP DC, Co-leader Emma Cowan-Young, please check out the December and January updates. If you’re in tl:dr mood, here’s are some highlights…. a group of volunteer Co-Leaders and NP Co-Founders formed a Board Selection Committee that was tasked with creating a process to identify and approach potential candidates for the new Board of Directors. We’re pleased to report that we currently have eight confirmed Board Members. Since we’re looking for an odd number of members, the courting process continues. As soon as all the Board seats are filled, we will be making introductions with the whole November Project world. Please join us in thanking our Board Search Committee members for their fantastic work on this project. We couldn’t do it without them.

$13,000 Charitable Donation from NP + Knockaround
As you may remember, the NPSUMMIT gathering was supposed to be in the Twin Cities in the fall of 2020. At the same time, our friends from Knockaround were supposed to drop custom “Just Show Up 2’s” sunglasses on their website and in person at the summit. Due to the global pandemic out plans changed but we still looked for a way to give back to the Twin Cities community. As a result, we asked the Knockaround team to donate 50% of all proceeds from JustShowUp2 sunglasses to Juxtaposition Arts in North Minneapolis. This organization was picked by NP MSP Co-leaders (Nat, Erolf, and Emily) because of their great mission and their commitment to support Black & POCI youth artists and designers in the area. We’re incredibly thankful to Knockaround for their excitement to participate in this outreach and grateful to November Project community that contributed to this $13,000 donation to help “Jxta” folx get closer to their $2M fundraising goal. For more information on this organization, please visit the Juxtaposition website.

Human Resources Hiring Process
November Project will soon add a Human Resources Representative to its leadership ranks. In addition to managing Co-Leader transitions, leadership onboarding, conflict resolution, and the management of the pledging cities, this part-time position with the potential to grow into a full-time role, will conduct Co-Leader training and help develop and execute a long-term HR strategy. From well over a hundred applicants responding to this publicly posted opportunity, we are quickly approaching the final stages of the interviewing process and are looking forward to announcing the newest member of NP HQ in the upcoming weeks. In the meantime, we’ve been lucky to have NP Atlanta Co-Leader and longtime NP member Winnie Lok helping out with internal communication efforts, Co-Leader check-ins, as well as streamlining our current HR processes and information tracking systems. Winnie will be staying on board to help with the transition while the new HR Representative is settling in. Winnie, we’re thankful for all your hard work and support!

Mr. Dictionary (YEG)

  • Do you know why they call me Mr. Dictionary? Because I have all this definition!!!
  • Do you know a good vet? Because these puppies are sick!
  • Why does Arnold Schwarzenegger workout on an island? Because he wants maximum isolation
  • What do you win if you don’t move a single muscle all month? A trophy
  • What did the joint say when invited to the muscle party? I’m a tendon
  • I’m exercising my eyebrow muscles by raising them high! Try it – you’ll be surprised

Dumb jokes aside I am solidly sore already. I know I’ll be watching my form to make sure I am doing the best I can but I can already see that there are a lot of muscles that I haven’t been training enough.

Hopefully you all are enjoying yourselves too and that the new workout structure makes sense. Remember to only count the reps of the exercises themselves (i.e. don’t count anything you are doing in the cardio/rest portion) and that each rep is one movement (e.g. Russian twist to the left + Russian twist to the right = 2 reps). This will apply to every workout this month – if you have any questions just message us. read more
