St Paddy’s Day is a religious holiday that many people celebrate by feasting, parading, or dying rivers green, while others sign up for their local road races. This year, during the St. Paddy’s weekend I will not be in Boston doing all the Southie things. Instead, I’ll be in Virginia Beach attending the Yuengling Shamrock Marathon festivities. Check out the details below and join me if you’re in the area.
Friday: 6:15 AM – pop-up workout with Red and Barry and the rest of the November Project Virginia Beach squad. Keep in mind that these guys usually don’t have Friday workouts so this one is going to be extra special with a side of awesome. Location: Fitness park at 36th street.
Friday 3-8PM – Speaker Series at the race Expo. Come see a long time friend of November Project, Bart Yasso, an NP Member and a marathon Rock Star, Shalane Flanagan, her co-author of Run Fast, Eat Slow, Elyse Kopecky, and yours truly. I will be grabbing the mic at 6 PM so bring on your best heckling material.
Saturday morning – 8k race. Wanna race me? 8k is my distance (NOT!). I’m fast (NOT!). If you’re eying the half or full marathon on Sunday, you can still signup for an 8k. It’s called a dolphin (for 8k + half) or a whale challenge (8k + full marathon). If you complete either of those, besides earning an admiration of the world, you will earn a special medal to commemorate your accomplishment.
Saturday 4PM – Speaker Series at the race Expo. Looking to learn more about the NP history and the power of community, this will be the place to be.
Sunday morning – the gun for the half and full goes off. If you’re racing, race hard. If you’re cheering join the good folks from NP Virginia Beach at 66th street where the negative vibes will be checked at the door.
If you still contemplating if you should race or not, maybe the code “justshowup” for $10 off, may help with a decision. This is going to be a fantastic week of racing and celebration and I’m excited to see you all there!
